Most people, when they find out they're pregnant or approved to adopt a baby, have several months in which to get things ready for their new arrival. Expectant mothers go through a nesting phase in which they putter around their home getting everything ready for the baby. If you're just gearing up to create a nursery out of the guest room or your office, here are some fun decorating themes you might want to use.

Nursery Rhymes

Where do nursery rhymes fit better than in the nursery? Tamed popular nursery rhymes such as Hansel and Gretel, Jack and the Beanstalk, London Bridge, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and Humpty Dumpty naturally lend themselves to cute character murals and wallpaper borders. You can also get prints or lithographs of picture book pages by clicking here and match the colors of your baby's furniture, walls, and bedding to the predominant colors in your favorite nursery rhyme illustrations.

Animals

Another popular baby room theme is animals. Kids love animals whether they're pet hamsters or wild African lions so you can't go wrong with animal posters and animal themed linens and drapery. There are several different animal themes you can go with, including farmyard (horses, cows, barns, etc) safari (lions, elephants, giraffes, etc) pets (dogs, cats, etc) and dinosaurs (t-rex, stegosaurus, etc). Animal themes are educational as well, as you can point out and name each animal for baby.

Primary or Pastel Colors

If you don't want to bring too many characters or decals into your home, you can always go with a color based scheme. Primary colors - red, yellow, and blue - are bright and appealing to children and are often available in decor as crayon pack themes. However if you're going for a more soothing baby room, try pastel colors like pale purple, yellow, and blue, which also have the benefit of not being so garish to the adult eye.

Cartoon Characters

There are hundreds of popular children's movies out there that you can choose from if you're looking for a character scheme for your baby's room. Disney even has licensed characters adorning diapers! Some popular themes based on movies include Disney/Pixar's Cars, Pixar's Finding Nemo (which stars a series of colorful fish), Baby Einstein (which introduced kids to science and music) and the Disney Princesses (which includes several ethnicities, including Middle Eastern and African American).
